Day 40: Orford Ness & Sutton Hoo
Caught the ferry t0 Orford Ness - the largest shingle spit in Europe. Which should be reason enough to visit it. But of course, it isn't. The actual reason that I went is because Orford Ness was used by the Ministry of Defence for 'secret military tests' during both World Wars and the Cold War. And the remnants of those days are visible in the buildings they left behind. Which was eerie. Along with the signs warning you about unexploded bombs, shells, grenades, mines.... which they don't quite know the location of. Feeling grateful not to be blown up, I continued on to Sutton Hoo to see some burial mounds - but more importantly seek out a tea room for a strong cup of coffee.
