Simple Beauty
We've had both Anna's Hummingbirds and Rufous Hummingbirds at our feeder today. In between trying to capture their dizzying antics and stay abreast of the even more dizzying antics in Washington, D.C., I chopped ingredients for a big pot of sweet potato stew and cooked it up for tomorrow's supper, while making something completely different for tonight's.
I hope it's a good omen for our country that this female Anna's Hummingbird and a male -- see the extra photo -- settled down amicably at the feeder just after I took that shot. That's not something I've seen before.
[Addendum: This is a Rufous female, not an Anna's, making it even more amazing that they would share space on the feeder.]
