They came from the deep!

Another quick visit to a rather wet Peterhead harbour this afternoon. They are currently doing a lot of reconstruction involving pulling out structures that have been under water for many years. One of them was literally covered in these strange organisms. Any guesses as to what they are, informed, inspired or otherwise?
