Set off relatively early to catch the tide at the causeway to the Brough of Birsay and the extensive Viking Settlement. Quite mystical in the slight mist...
A walk to the lighthouse - now powered by solar panels - and a look back to Kitchener's monument on the cliffs.
Coffee near the Earl's Palace - relatively modern 16th century ruins - which is today's blip, then on to the Broch of Gurness and the shamrock house. Occupied from the Iron Age though Pictish and into Norse times - what an impressive fortification that must have been!
A late lunch in Evie and back to pack up ready for the drive home tomorrow - probably in the rain ;)

Extra is the flagstone slab roof of Arnie's house, my Abstract Thursday mystery, which blipper PorridgeWog knew immediately - but he's a local...
