Waiting for Gregory's Girl by St Enoch's clock

Had a day trip to Cumbernauld for the ReImagiNation festival where I led a reading group discussion at Castle Comics about the graphic novel Judge Dredd: America.

While in the area I couldn't resist visiting St Enoch's Clock, as featured in the beloved 1981 Scottish film Gregory's Girl (see extra photo for a grainy screengrab).

The clock used to be on the train station but was relocated to the shopping centre and restarted by the Queen on May 18th, 1977 - exactly forty years and two days ago.

A search of the town centre shopping centre for the clock proved fruitless so I asked a security guard. Turned out the clock was in an area currently closed to pedestrians, but he unlocked the door to let me have a look - and even took my picture in front of it.

Everyone in Cumbernauld knows someone who was in Gregory's Girl, it seems. The security guard's best mate's uncle had a cameo as a schoolboy picking his nose while trying out for the football team.

Ahh, the glamour of cinema!
