Dusk at Lone Pine

An early get away from Yosemite as we'd a long drive in prospect. First stop, Bakersfield, after a driving stretch from the co-driver - we were passing through but met a guy sitting outside the coffee shop who wanted to strike up conversation. We humoured him briefly but then we got into talking about Buck Owens and the Bakersfield sound. Admitting one of my favourite tunes was Dwight Yoakum's Streets of Bakersfield, he proceeded to play it from his phone and sang along. Top effort. And yes, Lordy Lordy, he had Scots/Irish heritage.
But then it was onward and off the main highway, across country and up the Kern River valley - hillsides covered in purple flowers, but gradually the land growing drier. At Five Dog Farm I took some photos of Joshua Trees but they were a bit dull for my discerning blip audience. What a great name though - the very reason we were heading for Lone Pine, needless to say.
We checked in and went to sit in the one bar in the Main Street to quaff a Lagonitas. The door of the bar advertised a cake bake with the worthy aim of raising money for an extension to the town cemetery. My kinda bar! I'm now writing American it would appear.
