Castle Art Gallery.

I love art and today I went to this bijou gallery to see the work of Lawrence Coulson, son of Gerald Coulson who is one of the most important landscape and aviation artists of the 20th Century. Although Lawrence did not excel at art in his schooldays, his father encouraged him to have a go at oil painting at the age of 21, giving him a few useful tips.  Lawrence has now become one of Britain's leading contemporary landscape painters, as a professional in 1997. Lawrence says..."I feel a huge amount of satisfaction in trying to create the tension that fills the air before a storm or the atmosphere of being the first one on the beach on a cold autumn morning."  I have a particular interest in the Coulson artists, as I worked at Marshall's of Cambridge  many years ago, as a draughtswoman in the Technical Publications department where Gerald was a colleague. At the time he was a technical illustrator and the company artist.. Although I haven't seen him for many years, I have often looked at his work and his son's. Gerald, who likes vintage aircraft, still has his pilot's licence and can often be seen buzzing across the Fens in a Tiger Moth.   I have added an extra of Ronnie Wood's paintings. There is also some of Bob Dylan's work. A small but first class gallery.
