Such a shame
Half and hour on the torture machine cross trainer. I've decided that there's no use starting the new regime while there are still pretend Magnums in the freezer. I'll work my way through them first. Sensible, eh?
Beautiful blue sky with fluffy white clouds, so the plan to go and see Ana Karenina at the Cameo for £2 (on Wednesdays) was no longer a good idea. I will pay £4.50 to go on a dull day.
I spotted a blacksmith's van in the street, so happened to happen upon the driver as I went out. He came and had a look at the balustrades. Took photos and told me the work involved (sounds like £££s adding up...) and will give me a quote. There are more blacksmiths around than you would think. Not doing many horses now, but there must be miles of balustrades and railings in Edinburgh.
Mind you, and I read ages ago that they chopped tonnes of iron railings down in the War effort, but they didn't use them, and it's all dumped in the Irish Sea. Such a shame.
I decided to go on into town to try to get a photo from a vantage point, because the clouds were lovely. I remembered a great restaurant where you can go out on the balcony and you're looking right at the castle. The very place! When I got there, there was a sign saying it had closed in August. Whoa! I'm sure the competition in town is fierce, but I would have thought this place had something nobody else had, though not much advantage in the wettest summer in 100 years. Such a shame.
When I'm in town, I always head for My Club. And why not? Coffee, shortbread, papers, iPads, no muzak. And it's very handy. It's right by St Andrew Square. I wanted to take a photo of these tall purple flowers - no idea what they are - with My Club in the background.
I love purple. That poem "When I an old woman, I shall wear purple' was not written for me. I did not wait till I was old to wear purple, though not usually with red.
Would you believe it - this chap came along, not only wearing a lovely purple jumper, but dragging two purple (or are they pink?) suitcases! I nearly fell off the wall in my excitement. Now that would have been such a shame...
