They are the Law

So I turn up at the car park and find that my (clearly signposted as reserved) parking space is in fact in use by none other than a Lothian & Borders Police car.

Apparently they are the law and don't need to follow the rules (they weren't attending an emergency as I saw later, just manning an information stand). If I parked in a police reserved space would I get away with it? Must try it sometime (or not).
