RAF Menwith Hill was opened in1958.  The site contains an extensive satellite ground station and is a communications intercept and missile warning site 
Operated by the US National Security Agency it  has been described as the largest electronic monitoring station in the world.

It is situated just off the A59 near Harrogate.  This photograph was taken from West End Lane above Blubberhouses.
