Lost on bikes
We bought a second-hand bike yesterday, and so with one already in the garage we were all set to go exploring and get lost in the city and along the river - great fun and not too scary with traffic. There are some bike lanes, and the tow-path along the Cuyahoga River is great. That is an amazing waterway for the most enormous ships that navigate the narrow widths. There is a lot of industrial history to this city, with boom and bust economy over the decades. The water is not a pleasant colour, but we are told they are now making serious moves to clean it up and stop the industrial waste. It must have been bad in the past - the river has caught fire several times due to oil pollution, the latest event being as recent as 1969 !!
The flags downtown were mostly at half mast - perhaps in acknowledgement of the tragic event in Manchester UK? So sad.
PS...I have edited/replaced the photo - still in the main square of downtown Cleveland, but showing also the "Soldiers & Sailors Monument"
