Red Rocks - Pease Bay
On a gorgeous sunny day I met up with one of my friends today and we walked down through Pease Dean Woods to Pease Bay. This wonderful sandy beach tucked away at the bottom of the gorge is bookended by striking sandstone cliffs in which the rock strata are clearly visible. This beach is not well known locally as it is tucked away down a single track lane. However, you can readily see it if you travel on the East Coast trains. Unfortunately you have to navigate through the many static caravans of the Pease Bay Caravan Site in order to get access to the beach but this development has been handled relatively well as the caravans border the small stream that leads out into the bay. The other bonus as far as we were concerned was the opportunity to grab a coffee in the bar before tackling the upward journey back to the car. The day was well rounded off by a pub lunch in Coldingham.
