Baby Birds
I went to a friend's lake this afternoon to see the duck families. One had 12 ducklings originally but there are only about 8 left. The other had about 8 and there are 5 left. No wonder they have such large broods when the attrition rate is so high. Last year one of the families only had one survive. Fingers crossed that they can stay out of the way of predators.
The first extra shows some high jinks on the water and the second extra shows more progress of our Redstart babies. I was worried yesterday that I could only count 4 but I was reassured today that there are still 5 in the nest, as you can see in the photo.
