Medieval Hilltown
This is one of two paintings I finished this week and photographed today. It's based on a small rough painting I did last September in Oppede le Vieux, a medieval hill town in Provence, when sitting very uncomfortably on a sketching stool! The buildings were quirky and the streets narrow.
Oppède Le Vieux is a magnificent little hill-top village. Built high on a rocky outcrop and surrounded by lush vegetation, thick forests and rocks. This historic village has a 12th century collegiate church which dominates the skyline, the ruins of an ancient chateau and the remains of historic workshops and houses.
