Battlefield tour Ypres
Today we launched a battlefield tour around Ypres where in the Great War was fought fiercely by British troops, Canadian and French troops.The Brooding Soldier is a Canadian war memorial near the Belgian town of Saint-Julien in Flanders. It was designed by F. C. Clemesha and was unveiled on July 8, 1923 at 11 am. The Brooding Soldier, popularly known as "Den Canadien", is dedicated to the more than 2,000 Canadian soldiers who lost their lives in the first gas attack during the Second Battle of Ypres in the First World War.
The monument is a 10 meter high granite statue of a Canadian soldier, resting on his rifle. This attitude, "arms reversed", the traditional military salute to the fallen.
