A spot of lunch...

...just the thing when shopping in Norwich.  M and I were only purchasing fairly mundane items but we thought we would try 'The Assembly House' for lunch.  After enjoying a protracted lunch and admiring the surroundings, we noticed that other diners coming in were starting on Afternoon Tea, which I have to say looked wonderful...another day perhaps.
What really struck me was the grandeur of the room, and I thought the colours on the wall were splendid.
Apparently the Assembly House has always been the place to be in Norwich since the 19th century when it was the favoured watering hole of the local gentry who would come to drink and dance beneath its magnificent crystal chandelier.  In 1805, a Grand Ball was held to celebrate Nelson's glorious victory at the Cape of Trafalgar and the hall has welcomed countless dignitaries over the centuries.  
There is also a ballroom (sadly which we didn't get to see) and as well as hosting various events in the building they also run a cookery school. They also have a small number of rooms, great for a weekend away in Norwich & Norfolk.
The Assembly House is run as a registered as a charity and does much work within the community of Norwich.
