Gold

I decided to treat myself to a moth trap. I know very little about moths but I thought it might be fun to learn about them from the comfort of my own garden. Last night seemed like the perfect time to put the trap through its paces. I got more captures than I could process, so I chose one that I thought was attractive to try and ID and to photograph, and released the others. I failed to identify it under my own steam, but a quick tweet to the wonderful people at Butterfly Conservation Yorkshire Branch soon put me on the right track. It's a Gold Spot, Plusia festucae, which, I believe qualifies my garden as a water meadow ;-)
