Late Berries

I hustled home after work, we picked up our buckets, and mosied up to the top of the hill where we had found a last pocket of humongous blackberries. We caught up on the talk of the day while plinking the berries into our containers, and felt the wrath of berry vines on our bare calves and arms. We came home bloodied but bolstered with 10 pounds or so of berries that will find their way into cobblers and jams. We'll remember these days when we pull a frozen pie out at Thanksgiving and share the berry love with our family and tell of that warm September afternoon after school when we climbed the hill after these scratchy treats.
