Silver Leaf

I don't know if it is becoming part of a liturgical mantra but "Another grey and wet morning".

The westerly winds are up. Because the low pressure area is to the north of us the winds are anti cyclonic. They pass over the southern tip of the Arctic region from east to west then swing in from the Atlantic. You can feel the chill in the air where it has been refridgerated on its journey.

Its blowing in gusts, not gale force but enough to rip small weak branches from the trees. Its the type of weather that makes you walk with your head down with a very restricted range of vision. Finding a blip in these conditions can be quite challenging.

I was walking along a grass verge when I saw against the green this splash of silver. One of those weak branches with leaves, ripped off and discarded like so much unwanted clothing, their job done done for the summer. Not to be packed away in a wardrobe for next year if the fashions allow but to become part of the detritus of a closing year.
