WHEEL IN WHEEL

I walked along the harbour side by the sea this morning. The day has yet to decide what kind of weather it will bring, but there was a definite autumnal air.

Taking a closer look, I spied a wheel within a wheel. This is part of the wheeled-frame for a fishing boat, used to transfer the boat from the Coble Landing to the beach and thence the sea. The hook mechanism locks the boat to the trailer via a chain that couples to an old tractor for moving.

When I came to live here twenty years ago there were upwards of 7 active Yorkshire Fishing Cobles and maybe 20 smaller fishing boats. Now there are 3 Cobles and they make few trips out to sea. The Yorkshire Fishing Coble is of all wooden construction, usually with a crew of two.
So sad to see their demise - but the sun has come out ! Have a grand day !
PS - Norman ate his tea last night - so more on the way.
