The National Garden Scheme is 90 today
The N G S is a fund raising idea where individuals and organisations open their garden, charge a modest entry fee, and the proceeds go to nursing charities
The scheme started in 1927 when it raised £8000 to support district nurses. Last year it raised £3.5 million to help a range of organisations including Marie Curie, Hospice UK and MacMillan Cancer Support.
Mary Berry is the president, her garden has been in the scheme for 20 year.
