Common Red-sided Garter Snake

I'm not sure why they're called red-sided because I never have seen any red on them but that's what it is.   Pipersdad spotted it hiding among the weeds native plants in the back yard this morning and called for me to bring my camera.  I think we must have several residents because we see them frequently.  They are completely harmless and I really like snakes so I'm happy to have them.   This one was about 18 inches long.  :-)
