Snapshot of America

Today is Memorial Day in the USA, sort of like our ANZAC Day in NZ but remembering all those who died in all the wars that the US has been involved in, rather than one event. A public holiday, and some say because of that, it has somewhat lost it’s meaning in the modern world.

We went for a day out to Chagrin Falls, south of the city – lots of red, white and blue everywhere (but not of the French kind), very patriotic and very America. Back home this evening the smells of BBQ ribs from neighbours hung deliciously in the warm evening air – an American tradition on this day. We had ours last night before a spectacular thunderstorm came through. Then we watched a (mild) horror movie which was great – enhanced by the flashes of lightening and crashing thunder outside.
