Near Miss

Remember that hedge I trimmed a couple of days ago?  Here is the perfect reason for NOT trimming a hedge in the summer!  

TJ happened to spot a couple of loose branches I'd missed and when he pulled them out, this is what he spotted.  A song thrush's nest with at least three chicks in it:-)  I waited for a few minutes and was delighted when she returned with food for her brood and then settled down on top of them to keep them warm, totally ignoring me.

Rubbish photos, but I was very anxious not to disturb her further after the damage I'd already done to her hiding place.  TJ has covered over the gap I made and you can't see the nest now from the outside, so hope she rears the chicks safely.  Lesson learned:-)
