Beachcomber

In Town for a meal with P who leaves for Namibia on Thursday.   Nice Mexican restaurant on Rose Street although a little 'cheesed out' at the end of the evening.   Spotted these windows at the other side of the street and was pleasantly surprised to discover they are a homage to a favorite poet of mine, George Mackay Brown.   While he spent most of his life in Orkney he was a mature student at Newbattle College and he, along with other Scottish poets frequented the bars of Rose Street.   I am aware of some of the paintings of these 'men of words' in Edinburgh but this was new to me.

The full poem is here.    He is, in my opinion quite accessible as poets go.   Maggie Fergusson's biography is well worth tracking down as well.
