East Riddlesden Hall

A beautiful sunny day today, so me & Mrs MD decided to have a look at East Riddlesden Hall (N.T.) and its garden - just outside Keighley.  We had a very pleasant surprise in meeting blipper Majikcat as we walked around the garden.
East Riddlesden Hall is a 17th Century manor house built in 1642.
In 1913 the estate was in disrepair and in the process of being sold.  A number of internal fittings including fireplaces, panelling and plaster ceilings were sold and there was speculation the hall would be taken down stone by stone and reconstructed in America.
Various attempts were made to save it but in 1933 the estate was sold to Harry Emmott from Keighley. He planned to demolish and re-erect the Hall elsewhere in Yorkshire.  Saddened by this news two local brothers stepped in and bought the Hall and 12 acres of land for several thousand pounds.  Emmott retained the rest of the estate for building, and today the Hall is surrounded by 1930's residential housing estates.
In 1934, the two brothers donated the Hall to the National Trust with the understanding that it would be looked after for ever.
