Happy 40th anniversary Gait Barrows

The limestone cairn at Gait Barrows celebrates the dedication of the NNR to mark the Queen's silver jubilee in 1977.
Some of those involved in securing this wonderful place for the nation were able to attend and tell us of their struggle to save the limestone pavements from destruction:
Donald Piggot, Steven Ward and Roger Cartwright. Also Tony Aldridge, Rob's predecessor as Site Manager.
We were blessed with a stunning sunny afternoon, and the champagne corks were popping!
