ST. JOHN'S HEAD

St. John's Head - 1,128 feet of red sandstone - a gladsome sight - another 25 minutes & we'll be docking in Stromness!

Scotrail to Perth, then Inverness was smooth & painless. The three coach train from Inverness to Thurso is a four hour kidney shaker - 26 stops & the track is mostly laid over bog, bless it & it's virtually unmaintainable!

Has its compensations though - see the extra - swathes of glowing gorse throughout Sutherland.
