Identical twins ?

These Magnolia were planted (and Blipped) on 20th February. I said at the time they would take probably 3years before they bloom - but I would be happy if they just produced some leaves in the meantime so that I would know they're not dead. 
Well, this is today - identical 'twigs', planted in identical pots, side by side, same bag of compost, watered at the same time etc...  But - only one has leaves, sprouting everywhere - the other is, so far, still bare. If it doesn't produce some sign of life soon an email will be sent!
