The Peveril of the Peak
This grade II listed building dates back to 1829.
The distinctive yellow-tiled exterior was added in 1900.
The Peveril of the Peak is supposedly named after the Manchester to London stagecoach of the same name and is reported to be haunted.
During the Second Wold war it was used as a brothel by GI's and in 1996 it was used for filming in three episodes of Cracker.
I have akways known it as 'The Pev' and the Irish Landlady Nancy who started at the pub in 1971 celebrated her 40th year there in Jan 2011. She was running it with her son then as she must be in her 80's.
The interior also has some ornate tiling and a mahogany bar.
I have nt been in for years but it holds some happy memories :-)
