Between fen and mountains

God's own country

I didn't take the most direct route up to the Yorkshire Dales but went by Pateley Bridge and upper Nidderdale. The yellow bicycles hanging everywhere indicated that we were on the tour de Yorkshire route and after a picnic in Ramsgill we climbed the Col de Lofthouse before eventually arriving in Middleham. I managed a late afternoon walk without too much discomfort and strolled along Coverdale where a group of young people were enjoying jumping off the high bank into the river.
