A Nostalgic Day

Today we went to visit the Wells and Walsingham Light Railway (which is the world’s smallest public railway and this year is celebrating 35 years of service). A 1940s weekend was being held, featuring 1940’s music, the home guard and various displays.  We also took the train for the four mile trip to Walsingham, a pilgrimage centre which makes this village very unusual and interesting: a return visit will be needed as we had limited time in order to catch the train back to Wells for the highlight of the day (for us at least) which was a fly past by a Spitfire, all dressed up in its D-Day stripes. 
On our way back home, we stopped off at the Langham Dome, which was a wartime training centre for the RAF to train soldiers to shoot down enemy planes from the ground.  This has been restored and now houses an interesting museum.  They were holding a heritage day and we enjoyed an aerobatic display by a Tiger Moth.

The extras show the train (its arrival being carefully monitored by a member of the Home Guard), and a group of ladies enjoying their picnic…I wondered if they were eating Spam sandwiches!
