Chimney Sweep Moth

We travelled to Wharram Percy the site of a deserted medieval village on the Yorkshire Wolds. It was a lovely afternoon for a walk on the Chalk grassland.

I did consider the photograph of the deserted and ruined church but this was superseded by a small black moth. It is amazing what you learn when in search of a daily photo. First I noted a small squat plant which resembled Cow Parsley. After some internet research I discovered it was Cobnut ( a relative of the carrot family). This in turn is what Chimney Sweep moths feed on and low and behold a little further on I spotted this fellow.

So not only did I have an enjoyable walk and managed some photography I also learnt something new. How good is that?
