A hawthorn Shield bug landed on my arm while I was working in the garden so I put it on a leaf while I got my camera.  I don’t mind having these despite the nymphs sometimes feeding on cotoneaster and rowan berries which are in the garden.  But I was horrified to find thousands of brown aphids on the beautiful carnations that I took from cuttings from my daughter’s wedding flowers.  I’ve had them for almost 20 years and they have survived two house moves but although I sprayed them, the plants don’t look at all healthy and I fear that they will have to be thrown out.
