Meet Niko, the latest bundle of cuteness to join our local dog community. She's 4 months old and is so like Ella that it's hard to believe it was only a year ago that she was like this.

Apparently her owner had another golden retriever which sadly died of old age recently. Replacing a beloved pet is not just as simple as it sounds, but it seems this puppy was born on exactly the day that their old dog died, so they thought it was meant to be. She is certainly lovely!

2 days after that we met the owner of another older retriever named John, running alone. We had never seen him run before and praised his dedication for running and walking the genki old dog as well. Which was when he told us that John too had passed away last Sunday. Just the other day he'd been frisky enough to try and make special friends with Ella!! Poor guy. 13 years is a long time to have a companion.
So it seems the next generation of retrievers are now top dog round here. Sad, but RIP John and Marron.
