Bealach na Searmoin
Whilst we did LOTS of walking when in the states, it has been a while since we did a "proper" walk. Today we headed over to Killiekrankie via the Bealach na Searmoin (Pass of the Sermon) and came back via the Craigower path (just over 10 miles in total with 650 m of ascent) - it felt good and provided quality "thinking time" and a break from the coverage of the awful events in London the night before.
Caught up with the news on our return - don't think I have been more incensed by a tweet than Trump's attack on Sadiq Khan. We'd been watching House of Cards over the weekend - somehow it doesnt seem quite so funny when Frank Underwood is preferable and more reasonable than present incumbent of White House.
I also did some more work on my PFHEA application on Saturday and spend a few absorbing hours researching a distant cousin (Margaret Smith Cleghorn) from my father's mother's father's side of the family, the side which was more upwardly mobile and better off than other branched - mill owners and managers rather than workers. Margaret studied English at Edinburgh University graduating in 1901.She then went on to lecture in English at the University of Birmingham before marrying. She was the eldest of 10 and lost three of her five brothers in the first world war. Her aunt Christina Cleghorn also had an interesting life - going out to India aged 29 to marry. Her husband's family lived round the corner from hers in Dundee. Look forward to finding our more about their lives.
