Malia Island Sunrise

I was out by 5am to travel to Malia (Crete) which is a few miles from where we are staying in Koutouloufari. I'm not that enthralled witn Malia as it's mostly a noisy place that's frequented by youngsters who are hell bent on a drinking holiday. As I drove down the 'strip' before 5.30am there were the last of the drunken revellers. What Malia does have is a beautiful church built on an island about 100 metres from the beach. As I set up to get an aerial shot I was witness to three young women splashing about, making a lot of noise. Soon after they 'crawled' out stark naked - they'd been 'skinny-dipping'!!!  Well worth getting up to see before a nice sunrise!

The blipfoto shows the red sun lifting up off the horizon to start the day and casting a lovely glow on the sea where the young girls had just got out!

Just before midday we said goodbye to Koutouloufari (see blip extra) after 4 weeks there. We then travelled three hours to Afrata on the west side of Crete to stay with a British couple in this small village which we first discovered in April 2003, by accident. We met our friends Kel & Mandy, who live in the next village to us in the UK, out here in 2003 when we stayed in Maleme.
