Ken Loach

Well, the 30th Hay Festival finished on a high note tonight with a standing ovation for filmmaker Ken Loach, a longstanding hero of mine.

He objects to his films being labelled social realism because he says it's a euphemism for working class. His first film "Cathy Come Home” highlighted homelessness and his latest ,I Daniel Blake portrays a man caught in today's poverty trap.

He had plenty to say about politics today and hoped we would all be voting the right way this week in order to bring about change.
He says there is a huge appetite throughout the country for change and we should welcome it. 
It's clear the present system is not working .

Ken Loach took time out from his set lecture at the start to talk about the terrorist attack in London last night.

Interestingly Evan Davies from the BBC in his talk earlier to promote his book on fake news and what is truth made no reference to last night attack. Neither did he even mention the role of social media in promoting   fake news.
It was an extraordinary he could talk for an hour without mentioning Google Twitter Facebook click bait etc .
Very disappointing, especially as this is the first year the BBC have sponsored the Hay Festival.
