Curious Nature.

This rather strange plant is Arisaema ciliatum.
In the wild it grows in China at about 7,500 feet. I do not understand why this curious flower shape gives it any evolutionary advantage. But given some of the comments below I now understand.

We bought a corm for a couple of pounds and it seems very happy in Arnside at 150 feet.
