Lawerknaepflas
That's the name for 'liver dumplings', an Alsatian specialty, which my mom thought we ought to make today as the weather was rather coolish and grey (because I soooo love to spend three hours cooking...) ;)
And yes, it sounds German. The Alsace region of France has this peculiar history where the region has alternatively been German and French through its history -- it must mean we're very desirable ;) Our villages' names as well as our surnames often sound German, our buildings have German architecture and we speak a germanic dialect, thus growing up bilingual by default. This whole thing results in a rather schizophrenic cultural background: I often say we combine the grace of the Germans with the efficiency of the French ;)
