the gentle life
For most of her life its been simply impossible to take Pushka out & let her off the lead - her Husky instincts were just too strong. Anything that might be considered prey - mice, birds, rabbits, sheep, deer or even cattle would have been stalked - and often as not (based on the evidence from her activities in our rather large garden) successfully caught.
If there was no prey then her enthusiasm to run would come to the fore. Just a few years ago I was running 12 miles every night - taking Pushka with me - often I'd get home & hand P over to Mrs IttH who would go out and do another 6 miles. This usually ended with Pushka getting home and then running loops of the house at full speed until she'd fall over dizzy - huskies simply love to run - and they expect the rest of the pack to keep up!
Now as she approaches 14 life is much more sedate - and recently we've been wandering up to this little meadow & I've let her off to potter around - often as not she'll simply come and sit by me or trot along near me as I admire the ever increasing wildflowers. I hope my old age is as peaceful and chilled - according to Pedigrees online calculator Pushka is now the equivalent of 82 years old - not bad!
