Mum's birthday
Forgot to take a picture. Phoned her early doors and I've never heard her so angry. Ruth Davidson would do well to never cross paths with my mum. She had the measure of her and no mistake. Mum also much lamented Angus Robertson's departure, describing him as the most effective opposition at Westminster ( the Tory party agree, when Angus lost his seat, it was reported that the Tory HQ gave one of their few and perhaps only big cheer of the night...because that's how much they feared him as he was so good at holding May's "feet to the fire", to quote his famous colleague Mr Salmond, no stranger to political highs and lows himself). Mum was angry at the loss of some of the more strong and capable politicians in relation to the weak and incapable incoming Tory MPs. She knows one of the incomers so she knows their limitations. We both let out a good bit of steam over the old dog and bone for a good 5 minutes or so.
And then a visit in person after a mostly unproductive work day with the family to give her a prezzie. Not much politics talk then though, were all fair scunnered and there were better things to talk about. Dad suddenly took briefly ill which is a bit of a worry but it seemed tiredness was perhaps at the root of it so we headed home to give them some peace.
Happy birthday mum, sorry you stayed up till 4am just to get a pretty low blow birthday present from some of our fellow Scots; strange times continue and May hasn't even resigned yet. Please no more elections, a break from and for the hard working campaigners of all political persuasions is long overdue. It be lovely to talk about solutions without party lines coming into it just for a little while, reducing the defensiveness on all sides for a breather.
