Boundless
My flight last night was cancelled because there was no fuel in the airport in Guinea Bissau. I've heard good ones before but that's a first! I was feeling sorry for myself (and Marcela!) for a wee while and then I said Get Up Get Out there and capture the beauty that abounds. And was I delighted I did. This is such as wonderful little country, full of incredibly rich natural beauty that is invisible to so many.
The extremes are gob-smacking: average wage of $160 a year (!!), the worst maternal health stats in the world yet it has 94 islands home to some of the most diverse ecosystems on the planet. Unfortunately Brazilian drug traffickers and local military / business men take advantage of this labyrinthine to their benefit. Need I say more!
So I keep focusing on the small and wonderful, and hope that it will be protected, will grow and conquer. My favourite in this shot is the calabas tree - very strange and very stunning!
