Unscheduled Event

Cynthia was backing out of the garage on her way to the Saturday market, but soon realized one of the Jetta's tires was completely flat. I fetched my compressor, inflated the tire, and listened for the sound of escaping air. I couldn't locate the leak, nor could C -- whose hearing is much better than mine.

She drove the Jetta to the tire dealer and I followed her. A few hours later, the car had four new tires and our credit card balance had increased by $600. It didn't seem so bad when I checked the service records and found that the tires were 10 years old, and had carried us 67,000 miles/110,000 km.
