Aurlansfiord
After flying to Bergen, over snowy, deep green mountains with water everywhere, we checked in to our hotel late, checked out early, and headed for the train station to begin our Norway in a Nutshell tour where we rode a regular train, a bus, a boat, a pokey train, and finally back to a regular train and on to Oslo.
The boat ride was along a very long fiord dotted with tiny, neat farms and villages and had countless waterfalls. Breathtaking.
To our own amazement, we kept feeling better. Every hour, we simply felt better!
When we arrived in Oslo, at 11:00 pm, it was raining quite steadily, but we put up our umbrella and walked out of the train station for a five block walk into the coolest scene of no cars, just lots of happy, Friday night folk dashing through the rain, laughing, yelling, live music in clubs, an accordion player covered in plastic, street name signs on all the corners (hardly the case in the U.K.), not a bit cold, chatty hotel clerk (tending bar right there on the same long bar) who said since we came in so late, he'd give us the best room. Whether he did or not, we love our 7th floor room where we leaned over the balcony to continue watching happy revelers.
