Blackfriars

I had occasion to go down to the Blackfriars part of the city of London this morning.  Whilst there l saw the wonderful art nouveau Blackfriars pub with the lovely old gold clock and statue of a Black friar.
The area was so named after the Dominican moncks who wore black caps (frere being French for brother) and who first lived in this part of London by the Thames around 1276.
