Backblip: Brodgar Life

It is always a pleasure to wake up at Brodgar by the side of the Harray loch. This was the first time that we have done so at any time that might be called the tourism in-season and the first time that we have felt under pressure to be off and away to leave room for buses to park.

We did leave fairly early but not before taking Nell around the bird sanctuary perimeter walk. The Ring was packed with people, absolutely buzzing but the bird walk was as ever our sole preserve. Probably one of Orkney's best kept secrets. oops, it's out now...

I took several abysmal shots of Ostercatchers and Black-headed Gulls as we walked around as they were all too fast moving for me. On the way back to the van along the boardwalk section to the car park, this wee chappie was more than happy to pose and let us move in closer.

Redshank? Please correct me if I am wrong.

We were soon off back to Kirkwall and the Picky Centre caravan site for the night. The evening's concert was very enjoyable, though you might not think so to have seen the big fat tears rolling down my cheeks as Eddi Reader sang. Her voice just does that to me.  I was so very happy to finally have seen her perform live.
