Backblip: Unst

From Braewick we went North and caught the ferries up to Unst. What a bargain. £18 for the campervan and driver  plus myself, Return. So long as you travel all the way up to Unst, using both ferries in the one day, you can stay there, then cross back to Yell and stay there and then return to Mainland Shetland for the one price. Remarkable. So, always travel all the way out first and work your way back, or you have to pay again the same price to go from Yell to Unst.

It seems odd, I know but no doubt due to Shetland ways of thinking and who am I to argue.

The weather was less good on Unst, very damp and misty, especially on higher ground. We had met a couple on the cliffs at Eshaness who had told us of a "nice little wilding spot". They were not wrong, as you can see. It is well off the beaten track and we had to travel some way on a single track road with passing places before moving onto a gated track, passing through three gates in order to arrive here.

We parked alongside the ruins of St Olaf's Kirk, by a nice sandy bay called Lund Beach. There was walking around a fresh water loch just up the hill and moorland walking beyond that. Possibility of otters but none seen.

This was our navigation tool for Unst,. A blunt instrument, but we coped
