Drains
Useful things, normally going quietly about their business. Until something goes wrong.
Yesterday I thought that a very large dog had mistaken our gatepost for a lamp post. This morning I started to doubt whether there was a dog large enough to account for the volume of wetness spreading across the drive. Then I noticed the manhole cover next to the gate post was covered in a murky looking puddle. My heart sank. I levered the cover open and my worst fears were confirmed. Ugh. Malfunctioning drains don't tend to get better by being ignored. But, a quick call to Dynorod established that the problem counted as an emergency and help would be on its way before lunch. As promised, a lovely man turned up, cleared the immediate blockage in the time it took me to make him a cup of tea and then sorted out the root cause of the problem, literally. Having excised a big pile of wiry hedge roots which had formed a very pretty looking mesh across the exit to the main sewer he tidied his equipment up and went on his way. Disaster averted.
