Isn't Nature Wonderful?

Two years ago, the window cleaner complained to the powers that be that there were wasps entering and leaving a hole between the wall and the wooden ceiling of our balcony. We had also noticed them but they weren't causing any problems to us. However the heavy brigade in the form of pest control came and did what they had to do which resulted in wasps dying in a horrible way all over our patio. It took a week before it was all over.

Today the wooden ceiling has been renewed and when the joiners removed the last of the old wood, the wasps' nest was revealed in all it intricacy. Removing it produced a deluge of papery material and another shower of dead wasps. I was struck by the complexity of the structure. Isn't nature wonderful.

My friend with her many talents has arrived this morning from Ireland for a flying visit and we are going out for a girlie lunch to catch up on events since we last saw each other. His Lordship is not invited.
